Isn't it shocking that Western Civilization was founded by two convicted criminals?

First off, come on, no one "founds" civilizations, what ever that might mean. Cultures are vast, amorphous, diverse, and always evolving in response to a myriad of events, cirstances, influences and a constant parade of mutually influencing individuals. It is intriguing to consider however if there is a distinctly Western preference for rebellion and personal opposition to authority. I read recently that in a survey in Japan when people were asked to name the greatest danger to their current society, the majority replied "Individuality". That did shock me. Also, even though in any military conflict there are soldiers who routinely accept the idea of their own voluntary sacrifice, I cant really imagine westerners making an identity of it like the Kamikaze of WWII or even the strap on suicide bombers of Islamic terrorists today. We love our lives too much, and we feel entitled to them. I know where Id rather stand... Go west!
