If scientist did find the "gene" that makes one gay what do you think would happen?

Me and a friend (both of us s) were discussing this the other day. We were thinking of those who perhaps would want s/s eradicated and push for an all-heteroual society. Then there's the people that would like to control their child's uality. Some would like gay others straight. So in all would you be afraid if they did discover said gene? How would that impact the world? Should we be afraid or optimistic?
