First off, come on, no one "founds" civilizations, what ever that might mean. A question about home canning!?

I got a whole ton of neat stuff for canning this Christmas. A pressure canner, a dutch oven, the jars and extra lids. I had to go get a can lifter and a few other things today. Do I really need the rack that separates the jars while they are processing? Can I use the rack in the pressure canner or the dutch oven? I am a very lost beginner in the world of canning. My 10 y.o stepdaughter thinks shes an adult! I need some advice about dealing with her behaviour.?

She stays with us every fortnight but her attitude and behaviour is starting to wear thin. She swears like a trooper, does whatever she feels like, shows no respect for our home (draws on walls etc.) but the biggest problem is she thinks she knows everything!!! Her mother has always bought her loads of expensive things (she comes back from the shops with a Nintendo DS when most kids would get a pack of lollies) and as such she doesn't appreciate or care for anything. Also, her mother never 'censors' anything so shes always been around very adult conversations (swearing, dirty jokes, general b#tching) and situations like shes one of her 'mates' which I think is why shes so headstrong and opinionated. I don't mean she can't have a say in things but there are limits and I sometimes have to remind her that shes a child and she doesn't understand everything. I wish I could give some examples of what I mean but I wouldn't know where to start!! I guess what I need to know is what are some good basic rules to lay down and how do we enforce them? We have tried to take something away from her for the weekend if she's been really but it doesn't work because most of her stuff is at home and she knows shes only here for a short time so she has the attitude of "stuff you- I'll do what I want cos I'll be going home tomorrow anyway". Underneath it she can be such a lovely girl but its very hard to teach her what is acceptable when she is only with us for such short periods of time, then goes home and gets corrupted!!!

Advice on my story, please?

I've just finished a mcript, and the thing I need help with is it was alternating POVs until about 1/3 of the way in until I just stuck with one character's POV the rest of the way. should I go back and rewrite it all in that character's POV or should I leave it the way it is? You do not want to change your water just yet. Basically the nitrogen cycle progresses as follows. Ammonia builds up in the fish tank and the nitrifying bacteria will increase in population (usually the hazy cloudy look to a new tank) they will consume the Ammonia and convert it to Nitrite (so Ammonia will be zero or close to and nitrite will rise) at this point Nitrifying bacteria will convert the harmful nitrite to less toxix nitrate. At this point when you test your water, NH4, and NO2 should be at zero but your nitrates should be around 80-90 ppm. Now it is safe to perform a water change and add some livestock. There's really no harm in performing a water change when your Nitrites are at 1 it's just that you are delaying your cycle by taking away the nitrifying bacterias food source. I hope this sheds a little light. Best of luck with your tank.

Found an iphone, tried to do the right thing, can't find owner, now how do I use it?

I found an Iphone covered in dust at a local library. It didn't have a scratch on it and I figured the low paid staff might keep it if I brought it over and handed it to them. I charged it and found that it had not been used since 3 months before I found it, and I only know this because there was a calendar note that said buy briefcase tmrw. There is not a single photo, phone number, recent call, downloaded app, voicemail, fingerprint, email, or anything that could possibly ist me to find the owner. I'm starting to feel like some rich guy just threw it down there for fun hoping someone would find it. The thing is, I did my best to do the right thing. I went to the apple store and made an appointment, they ended up being so busy that they skipped over me. I'd have had to wait another two hours to ask them about it. I called the police station and told them, they said they didn't have time for bs like lost phones and that if I wanted to I could drop it off. Again, I felt like the owner would not recieve it anyway. I myself lost an iphone and only ended up getting it back because one of their employees recognized me from a photo when sifting through it. I had gone there to buy a new one and just got surprised. She told me they get an iphone a week turned into them and that theyre are genuinely so busy that the effort of looking of serial numbers and contacting owners of lost phones barely happens unless there is a direct level of urgency. Even people who come in to store hoping to find their lost iphone may not even get it. So after spending a load of time trying to do the right thing, as someone had so generously done for me, I realized now matter what there is little or no chance I will be able to get this owner their phone back. Not to mention I found it in the library of a city that is genuinely 95% wealthy. The only loss was the phone itself, as there was no personal data on it. So I have my iphone now, beaten and weathered to death. And i have this brand new iphone, that is just going to waste. I know you can bring a used iphone and have it reactivated, but I'm worried they will either accuse me of thievery, or take the phone and put it away until they can "contact" the owner. Which as I was told by an employee barely happens. Only if the customer calls into the store itself do they look to see. Rather most phones are sent out after a certain set of days to recycling center and are held for a variable amount of time to allow the owner to contact them, before they are stripped, restored and resold. So it seems to me that apple would be doing more of an injustice to the customer than I am doing. Seeing as how I did the best i could as an average do gooder. Forgive the length of this thing, I just want everyone to understand and not judge me. So the bottom line is, I want to use this thing. Without involving apple, because my nature as a good samaratin will go to waste, and they'll make 400 more dollars. So how do i use it? Do i unlock and jailbreak it? I have a 32 mo. old who is receiving speech therapy since Aug.2007. We cannot figure out exactly what is wrong with him. The speech therapist thinks he has a severe phonological disorder, but she still can't get a definitive pattern on him other than he uses the sound h for other consonants, ex."har" for "car" and leaves off ending sounds ex.. "daw" for "dog".He can sometimes say sounds in isolation, but he loses it once he tries to say a word. He substitutes with the h sound. We can't understand what he says most of the time, and the things we do understand, it's because we are around him all the time. Right now we also work on putting his lips together to make the p sound. Sometimes he does, other times he doesn't. We have to constantly que him. He is actually trying to talk in sentences but not intelligible. Also, he can hear when you say a word wrong but he is not aware that he is saying it wrong. For instance, he says Homas instead of Thomas. If you say Homas he knows you're saying it wrong, but when he does it, he is not aware. He has ear tubes, had an updated hearing test, everything fine, so we got that out of the way. The therapist told me to read more on apraxia to see what I think since I'm with him all the time as oppose to her 4x monthly. I am so frustrated, so is he, and I am scared. I don't know how to help him. I know it's difficult to answer from this, but I just want other views or suggestions. Oh, for the treatment as of right now we are doing auditory bombardment. We'll sit him so he can color quietly, while a word list is read to him. Then we'll read a book and point to pictures that correlate to the word list, and then close the session with coloring and the word list again. Session runs 45 min.

On one of my bicycles the previous owner has replaced the gear hub with a later (1991) grease lubricated hub. I do not like these, as they require regular dismantling to replace the grease. Bank fraud and what can i do to prevent it from ever happening again?

i recently had bank fraud in my checking account and 2 weeks ago my credit card that i have not even used/activated. this is the 2nd time that's happened to me and it's driving me crazy. idk if it has something to do with my laptop or anything. i carry my card on me AT ALL TIMES and wtf, i got 2-3 unauthorized transactions in my account. what can i do to prevent me from any more fraud in my bank accounts b/c this is driving me crazy and really messed up? and also what causes people to get fraud? i'm so sick of the process to having to close my card and wait for a new one and everything like that.

Wedding colors, looking for ideas. ?

Ok here is my idea for my color scheme of my future wedding. Close your eyes and imagine this. I want to have my centerpieces be fish bowls (globes) with teal (or aqua) stones in the bottom and a single gold fish in them. I want a very clean look with white linens and the accent colors to be mainly the teal and goldfish orange. Anyone have any ideas as to what color flowers I could use? I am open to religion. I was sitting in a hotel and had a few to drink and was looking at the Bible which was by the Gideons. (not sure what that means.) I need help with my story?

The only thing I would change is to start the page off with "She" or "Aeris" rather than "The in." It becomes clear pretty quick that she is an in, so it feels like overkill to tell that to the audience straight out, right off the hop. I've always been told that in writing, you want to SHOW the audience who and what a character is, rather than TELLING them. Show it by the character's movements, words, and actions, and by others' reactions to him/her. In this case, I'd probably favour "She" for the opening, even though it sounds a bit clumsy maybe, just because it's more engaging, more elusive. The reader doesn't know yet who "She" is, so they have to read on to find out. Telling them right away that "She" is an assin takes some of the mystery/drama away, I think. Other than that, this is pretty good writing! And it sounds like an interesting story! Keep up the good work!

Help with Cathedral Ceiling and Ceiling fan question...?

Our contemporary house has a cathedral ceiling over the main living space and a huge ceiling fan. When we bought the home, the fan is set for the winter direction, pulling the air up. There does not appear to be a switch to change the direction to push the air down nor is there a remote control. Does anyone know how to change the direction if there is no visible switch or remote. Or should we leave as is, and put the fan on high. which would not create a breeze but would circulate the air. We have the central air on, and am debating whether the fan could help my electric bills or make it worse by pushing the warm air that has floated to the ceiling bk down again???? Injuries only from the airbag which consisted of sore throat, bruising and swelling on neck from airbag impact, and hyperextended elbow. Damages to my car consisted of door smashed, front left tire blown and some fender work. I was going 20 and he was going an estimated 55 in a toyota avalon. Some say I am lucky to be alive. Then in May 08 a girl pulled out in front of me and clipped my front right side. Minor damage, consisting of a fingernail sized scratch on front side panel. Then today July '08. I was Tbone when someone ran a red light. NO DAMAGE AT ALL. she was going atleast 50. So is there an angel looking over me? Is my car a tank? Do I have terrible luck? Ideas for a teen girl sophisticated bedroom?

I'm moving rooms so I get to do a little room makeover. Not everything new, but I can paint it and get some decorations and stuff. My furniture is white and there is hardwood floors. Originally I wanted aqua blue and green and then I wanted mint but I'm not so sure. I was looking around on the internet and I really like the chocolate brown and light blue scheme and the French scheme. With the brown and blue, i wouldn't be able to get any black which could be a problem. And for the French scheme which is typically black and white with a few other color accents, I want more colors. I don't like the idea of white walls and I can't get black if I wanted to. But i do like the idea of pictures of the eiffel tower and French stuff in there. Should I set this doctor straight?

I had an infection. Gut type infection probably food born I will spare you the gory details. So I went to my favorite clinic doctor he gave me some medication I thought it was gone but it came back. So I went to a different clinic because he wasn't on and got a more aggressive dose. I took that and it went and then cycled and came back. Then I went to a THIRD clinic doctor a new doctor and she looked the dose up in the drug manual and said the dose for one pill originally should have been 500mg not 100mg. She gave me 600 mg to be taken over 3 days and hopefully that will eradicate it for good. The first doctor started to think that it was irritable bowel and that I was nervous. It irritates me that if he had given me the appropriate dose that i wouldn't have had to be battling it for this long. And now he has me as some nervous chick when it was his fault for not giving me the appropriate dose. I feel like going back there and setting him straight because I am tired of women being shuffled into that category when something doesn't clear up. This was him not me. Not to be angry but just to discuss the issue. Also how many of you have had to go into and insist on something because a doctor just thinks it is all in your mind.
